Zak Lamb - Snooker Mentoring & Mind coaching

About Zak

Zak Lamb is a Snooker Mentoring & Mind coaching expert who works with current World Snooker Tour professionals and several Q Tour/ Q School players. Alongside his mentoring work, Zak is also studying for a PhD at Liverpool John Moores University specialising in Cue Sports. He could well become the first ‘Doctor’ of snooker!

Zak can help you equip you with solid mental skills to boost your game. To give an overview he’ll cover fundamentals such as the ‘SHEDS’ acronym:

  • Sleep – before a big match or after a big win when the adrenaline is pumping and you need to ‘go again’ the next day.
  • Hydration – avoid becoming dehydrated and potentially losing clarity of thought.
  • Exercise – There haven’t been many ‘overweight’ or unfit world champions. 17 gruelling days at the Crucible needs both physical and mental stamina to become World Champion.
  • Diet – Zak will talk you through the basics of fuelling yourself properly with nourishing food that won’t leave you hankering for a chocolate bar if a frame goes scrappy!
  • State of mind – from positivity, optimism and perfectionism, Zak will help you identify where you can improve to add an extra 10 or 20% to your game.

Such is Zak’s passion for the mental side of the sport, he runs the popular Cue Sports Psychology Facebook page, please follow his page to learn a little bit more about how Zak approaches this fascinating area of the game and the topics involved. Here’s an extract from one of Zak’s posts…

“The goal of a cue-sports mental coach is to identify areas of the mental game you can improve upon, then provide the information needed to ensure that the improvement is first; understood, then applied, then made habitual and eventually mastered. This doesn’t just apply to the top level players, it applies to all levels of players. Narrowing the gap is always the goal, to do this you have to work on your mental approach as much as your technical game.
The best mentors and sports coaches really ‘know’ what it is a player needs to progress and strengthen mentally, and then work on learning the skills to overcome this.”
