About Rod

Rod’s vast experience, including victories against some of the snooker’s greatest players including Stephen Hendry, John Parrott and Jimmy White make him an exceptional snooker coach. His deep understanding of snooker mechanics and tactics allow intermediate and advanced players to really benefit and learn from his 30+ years as a professional snooker player. Rod is very highly respected figure in the snooker world. Here are some of his finest achievements:

Career Achievements:

  • 1996 International Open Finalist: A ranking event final, defeating World Champion Stephen Hendry enroute to the final, where he faced John Higgins.
  • 2012 PTC 3 Champion: Secured his first professional title in Gloucester by defeating Marco Fu 4–2.
  • Benson & Hedges Championship Finalist (1994): Battled through a very tough field reaching the final against Mark Williams.
  • Two-Time Crucible Qualifier: Advanced to the last 16 of the World Championship in 1996, defeating fellow Liverpudlian John Parrott, before falling to Dave Harold.
  • 100+ Competitive Century Breaks: A testament to break building and scoring, Rod’s highest professional break was 143, recorded during the 2003 World Championship qualifiers.
  • Welsh Open Quarter-Finalist (2003): Defeated notable players like Stephen Maguire and Jimmy White.
  • Shootout Quarter-Finalist (2018): Adapted his methodical style to the fast-paced format, proving his versatility.

Rod came off the pro tour at the end of the 2023/24 season, btu still competes in top amateur events and carries on cementing his legacy of determination and strategic prowess on the baize. Rod reached a career high ranking of 20th in the world.

As part of the NWSA coaching team, Rod’s unique perspective—gained from competing at the highest levels—offers players invaluable guidance on the mechanics of cue action delivery, break building patterns, shot selection and when to attack and when to ‘defend’. Anyone who has played Rod will appreciate how his safety game can tie his opponent in knots! Rod’s expertise and calm demeanour make him an ideal coach to elevate your game because he’s been there, done it, worn the bow-tie. Rod Lawler as a snooker coach, is a fantastic asset to have in your corner, especially as an aspiring professional.

Rod runs 2 hour minimum coaching sessions for players capable of 50+ breaks and above.
