Dave is a Level 2 WPBSA Snooker Coach. As a promising ‘uncoached’ junior, young David mastered the game on his 6x3ft table, before being given permission as a 14 year old to play in the adult leagues around Ormskirk and Southport. By 1994, he was ranked in the top 16 of the English Junior rankings and also made the Last 16 of the English Under 17’s, losing to the late, great Paul Hunter. Study, life, travel and starting a family intervened before he picked up the cue again a few years ago!
From the basics of stance, grip, address and cue delivery, to shot selection, safety play and thought processes, Dave can help anyone from juniors to established players push on and take their game to the next level. He’ll advise on purposeful practice routines to build on weaker areas and create a solid cueing process that stands up when the pressure is on.
Dave has a wealth of knowledge about the game, with a special interest in observing how talent stands up to match play conditions. Since dusting off the cue again, Dave has won Individual League Championships, County titles with Merseyside, runner up in the Merseyside Open and picked up pocket money at Pro-am’s up and down the country. In competitions, he’s been the underdog and won and been the favourite and lost, the lessons learnt are now giving him an edge when it comes to coaching. Dave has a good eye for identifying the challenges facing a player and can assess a player’s ability quickly.
He has two children of his own, so understands the virtues of perseverance, patience and clear communication especially with junior players and beginners.
