Snooker Coaching

Technical & Mind Coaching

The NWSA Coaching Team is an experienced squad of technical and mental coaches catering for all abilities and levels. The team consists of current WPBSA certified coaches and top class amateurs who live and breathe the game.

As part of the NWSA’s Coaching offering, we’ve teamed up with renowned Snooker Mentors (with affiliation to Liverpool John Moores University via PhD research) to offer Mind Coaching for Snooker. Whether it be preparing for a big tournament, nutrition, coping strategies or simply learning to control thoughts and breathing patterns during matches, it’s all part of our programme that we’ve appropriately titled The FrameWork.

At the NWSA, we know we can cater for every level of player from a junior just starting out with her oversized cue to a frustrated seasoned league player struggling to find form.

It’s not always the case, but snooker coaches who are still competing at the very highest level can coach with authority. They’re seeing first hand how the top amateurs and professionals are approaching the game. They’re observing and feeding off opponents weaknesses and reacting accordingly. Shot selection and execution, when to attack, when to reign it in, scoreboard management…snooker is an incredibly tough game to master and these elements of match play are something the NWSA coaches can help you with too.

Elite level sports teams and even individuals do not have one coach or one authority on how to do everything. Rather, they have specialist teams or coaches that help individual aspects of that particular sport, therefore helping players achieve greater goals. At the North West Snooker Academy, this is something we feel is key to success. It’s rare to find coaches in other sports that haven’t participated at the highest level, so why do we settle for that as a snooker player looking for a coach?

Our coaching team at the NWSA are still involved in regional and national tournaments month after month. They can all hit regular century breaks and have learned a great deal from their victories (and perhaps more importantly, their defeats over the years).

Jimmy Robertson secured his first ranking title at the 2018 European Masters, after years of promise but failing to bring home the silverware, after a few months of embedding some mind techniques with his Sports Psychologist, he triumphed in style beating Joe Perry 9-6 with a ton to wrap up the match and finally justify his natural talent.

Recently Mark Allen sought out the services of a similar mentor who appears to have turned Mark Allen, who was already a phenomenal match player into a hard to beat winner. Mark openly admits he’d prefer to win with a century break but he’s winning with his B or C game now and when he’s sat in his chair, he’s in control and he’s positive. Mark’s now up to 3rd in the World Ranking list with 11 ranking titles to his name.
